Distributional Patterns of Gastropoda Upstream and Downstream of Bujagali Hydropower Project along the Upper Victoria Nile

To better understand the gastropod community dynamics of fresh water snails in Upper Victoria Nile (UVN), spatial and temporal abundance changes assemblage were assessed biannually from April 2006 to 2021 at three transects. Biannual abundances gastropoda obtained by a ponar grab examine their structure relation Bujagali Hydropower Project (BHP). The consisted nine speciesbelonging five families (Thiaridae, Viviparidae, Ampullariidae, Bithyniidae Planorbidae). Pulmonate species registered <i>(Anisus natalensis, Gyraulus sp., Segmentorbis Bulinus sp. Biomphalaria chaonomphola)</i>. Two pulmonates <i>(Bulinus B. chaonomphala)</i> are schistomiasis vectors. <i>(A. sp.)</i> rare intermittently occurred with up 47 ind.m-2. Four prosobranch <i>(Gabbia humerosa, Pila ovata, Melanoides tuberculata Bellamya unicolor)</i> encountered. Of these prosobranchs, <i>P. ovata</i> was rarest while <i>M. tuberculata</i> <i>B. unicolor</i> commonest. UVN characterised prosobranchs-dominated which over 16-year monitoring period often peak densities > 1000 ind.m2. inter-site Percent Similarity Index (PSI) (94-100%) indicated high degree similarity across sites.
